Mason's and Mayleah's Homecoming

Mason and Mayleah were released from the hospital on Sunday afternoon.  Their discharge weights were 5lb 1oz for Mason and 4lb 11oz for Mayleah.  Unfortunately, Grant needs to stay a few more days in the NICU.  He needs to pick up his eating, continue to gain weight (he's holding steady at 4lb 14oz), and hopefully improve his pacing when he eats.  Grant has a tendency to gulp his food and forget to breathe.  This wasn't completely unexpected since he's been having this issue for a few days now.  We were very sad to leave Grant in the NICU, but we also want to make sure he's strong enough to come home when he's released.  I'm hoping he comes home on or before my actual birthday (which is Wednesday, the 11th, for those of you who were wondering -- sorry if my previous post was a bit confusing).    

Our first night with Mason and Mayleah went well.  Since they're so little, it's important for them to eat every 3 hours.  This means that we need to wake ourselves up and typically we have to wake them up to eat, as well.  They're both doing great in the eating department.  Mayleah is a nursing champ but when she does take a bottle, she typically downs nearly 2 ounces.  Mason still falls fast asleep next to Mommy and therefore doesn't often nurse very well, but he quickly downs his bottles regardless if he's asleep or awake.  :o)  Since it takes about an hour to change, feed, and burp them, we will only be getting 2 hours of sleep at a time for a while.  When Grant comes home, that will be an even shorter stretch.  But, I still contend that it's much nicer to have them home and be sleep deprived than have them in the NICU.  

Owen was excited to meet his baby brother and baby sister.  After seeing just 2 car seats come inside the house, he asked where the other baby was.  We explained that Grant was still at the hospital, but we're not sure how much he really understands (or cares, for that matter!).  He's interested (but not too much so) in his baby siblings and was happy to give them the presents he picked out for them when they came home.  He gave Mason a fire truck and Mayleah a little duck.  Mason and Mayleah gave Owen a Tow Mater from the movie 'Cars' and they're also sending him to RideMakerz so he can create his own car.  He was very sweet with them last night and enjoyed holding Mason while sitting on Nana's lap.  We're so proud of how well he's handling this transition so far!
